Bringing The Best Of The ‘90s To My Son’s Childhood

The ‘90s were the BEST time in human history to grow up.

We had incredible technology that made life easier, but social media didn’t exist yet, nor did the stresses that have come with it.

Despite growing up in the suburbs of a huge metro area, it was safe enough for my brothers and I to walk to the park alone.

iPads and cellphones weren’t a thing yet, so my friends and I could let loose without worrying about what strangers on the internet would think.

You could go to the grocery store and find aisles filled with real foods that weren’t poison. (I mean, the thousands of Little Debbies I ate were poison, but what Millennial wasn’t fueled by Debbie?)

I want that for my son.

(Everything except for you, Deb.)

I’m fortunate that my family doesn’t live in a big city. It makes achieving a wholesome childhood much easier.

In fact, we live in an itty bitty town in Wyoming. It’s so small that it makes other small towns seem big. Sure, there are inconveniences to living so removed from civilization, but it’s the safest, most peaceful place I can imagine to raise my family.

Since having my son, it’s become my passion to find ways to give him the idyllic childhood that I had, despite being born into a world that’s too fast-paced, invasive, and toxic.

So, this blog is dedicated to my pursuit of creating a ‘90s childhood for my son. To me, that means taking advantage of the modern advances and amenities that I think are worthwhile and protecting him from the rest.

So what do I write about? Lots of things, like:

  • My experiences as a mom

  • Research-based health choices I’ve made (not advice, just the research behind my choices)

  • Low-tox living

  • Wholesome, unprocessed foods that you can buy at the grocery store

  • Quick, easy meal prep ideas for busy moms

  • Toddler play & learning

  • Highs & lows of modern motherhood

  • Homemaking & settling into our new house

  • Balancing mom life with working from home

  • My thoughts on life and the modern world

I’m so glad you’re here for the journey. If you, too, are on a mission to create a slower, more peaceful way of life for yourself and your family, stick around.

Hey, I’m Jenny!

Here are some quick facts about me:

  • I’m an elder millennial who had her first baby at 35.

  • I’m not quite a crunchy mom, but I’m also not an uncrunchy mom, ya know?

  • I had a fantastic career in marketing, but left it behind when my son was born. Taking care of my family is my main role, but I also enjoy writing website copy and being able to afford groceries, so I work from home while my son sleeps.

  • I’m trying to live a slower life and unprogram my need to rush through everything. I’m letting go of my need to find validation in task achievement.

  • I don’t feel like I got lost in motherhood. Rather, I found my truest self as a wife and mom. Though, if that doesn’t resonate with you, that’s ok. I’m a big fan of moms, even moms who make different choices than me.
