Nesting Party Ideas

Rent. asked me to contribute to a blog about nesting parties, and I was thrilled to participate! Check out my advice in Rent.’s new article: What is a Nesting Party? How to Host and How to Show Up.

Learning about nesting parties and how incredible they are had me really wishing I’d had one before my son was born. It’s definitely something I’ll be doing before our next baby arrives!

What Are Nesting Parties?

Nesting parties are a bit different from baby showers in that the focus is on helping the parents prepare their home for the new baby rather than playing games and bringing gifts for the baby.

They’re usually smaller as well, including close friends and family who aren’t afraid to be put to work. So, what happens at nesting parties? The sky is the limit, really. Each mom will have a unique list of tasks that she wants to accomplish before baby arrives, but activities may include:

  • Prepping meals for the postpartum period

  • Setting up the nursery

  • Washing, folding, and organizing baby’s clothing and other items

  • Cleaning and organizing the home so it’s fresh for baby’s arrival

  • Setting up activity baskets for older children

  • Setting up postpartum care stations for mom

  • Building bassinets, cribs, swings, or other baby furniture

The options are truly endless!

What I love about nesting parties is that it takes the burden of prepping the house off of the mom-to-be, who’s already working hard to grow her little one.

It also reminds the parents that they have a support network they can lean on. Getting ready for a baby really does take a village, and today’s moms know they aren’t in it alone!
